The Journey Starts Here

For those lucky enough to secure a place at The JCB Academy, your journey begins long before the first day of term. Joining us is a big step—you’re leaving behind familiar schools, teachers, and friends to start something new and exciting. Many applied for this opportunity, but only a select few were successful. Seize it from day one.

We know this transition can feel daunting, and that’s why our induction process is designed to make it smooth, supportive, and memorable. Here’s what to expect as you take your first steps into Academy life.

Your First Introduction

It all starts with CAT tests, usually held on evenings and weekends between November and January. These assessments help us ensure fair placement and give you your first glimpse of the Academy. It’s a chance to walk through the doors and begin picturing yourself as part of our community.

The Interview

Next comes the one-to-one interview—a key moment in the process. You’ll sit down with a member of our senior leadership team for a personal conversation. It’s not just about us getting to know you; it’s your opportunity to ask questions and learn more about what life here is really like.

Induction Day One

Fast forward to June, and the excitement builds. Our first induction day brings the entire new cohort together for the very first time. We ask you to arrive in your current school uniform or formal business wear—blazer, shirt and tie, trousers or skirt, and formal shoes.

The day is packed with introductory lessons in Maths, English, Science, Engineering, and Business. You’ll also complete a reading assessment and attend your first assembly. This is where misconceptions disappear—yes, we love projects and practical challenges, but most lessons happen in classrooms, just like any other school. What makes us different is the way we bring learning to life through employer-led projects and real-world experiences.

Induction Day Two

After the summer break, you’ll return for your first official day as a JCB Academy learner. This time, you’ll arrive in full Academy uniform. It’s a busy day—you’ll meet your tutor, collect your laptop, timetable, and locker, have your photo taken, and dive into your first lessons. It’s the moment everything becomes real.

Harper Adams Residential

Finally, the highlight of the induction process: a three-day, two-night residential at Harper Adams University. This experience begins by embedding our standards and expectations, ensuring every learner understands what it means to be part of The JCB Academy community.

From there, the focus shifts to building friendships, teamwork, and confidence through a series of engaging activities. The residential concludes with the exciting launch of your first employer-led challenge—the Harper Engineering Challenge. It’s fun, challenging, and an unforgettable start to your Academy journey.
