Personal Development

At The JCB Academy, education goes far beyond the classroom. Our learners benefit from a rich and varied programme of extracurricular activities and external visits, all designed to broaden horizons, build character, and develop essential life skills.

We place a strong emphasis on developing the whole person. Through regular opportunities outside of academic study, learners are encouraged to:

  • Discover new interests and talents
  • Build confidence and resilience
  • Develop leadership and teamwork skills
  • Engage with the wider community and global issues

Personal development also includes preparing learners for life beyond education. Our PSHE programme is designed to support wellbeing, resilience, and social responsibility.

PSHE is delivered through:

We value learning beyond the classroom and regularly organise trips that provide real-world context and inspiration. These experiences help learners connect their academic studies with practical applications in industry and culture.

Our visits include trips to industry sites, museums, and universities, as well as larger-scale experiences featured in our International Experiences programme (see our Extracurricular section for more details).

Some of our past highlights include:

  • A visit to Silverstone Racing Circuit and Museum.
  • A tour of JCB’s manufacturing facility in Pune, India.
  • The annual Ski Trip – combining sun, snow, mountains, and unforgettable memories.
  • Sightseeing in New York City, exploring its iconic landmarks and cultural attractions.
  • The Design & Engineering Tour to Italy, featuring visits to world-famous brands such as Ferrari and Ducati.

This holistic approach ensures that learners leave The JCB Academy not only with strong academic and technical qualifications, but also with the personal qualities, experiences, and confidence to thrive in life beyond education.

We believe that qualifications open doors—but it is the professional behaviours, skills, and experiences developed here that empower our learners to succeed in the world of engineering and business.
